Biography:

I am a cell biologist with a background in cell migration. Through my scientific career I have developed a great interest in microscopy techniques.

In November 2009, after my postdoctoral training – that included time at EMBL-Heidelberg, LRI-CRUK, Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research and King’s College London – I joined St George’s as a Principal Investigator. My lab uses mainly microscopy techniques to investigate the biology of Prostate Cancer with special emphasis in the role of cell migration in this process.

Since October 2012, I am also the Academic Director of the Image Resource Facility (IRF). Here, we aim to coordinate all the current Imaging Resources – including Scanning and Transmission Electron Microscopy, Light, Epifluorescence and Confocal Microscopy (with live imaging capabilities), and sample preparative equipment – to offer a service to the St George’s research community, NHS-Trust and other external users. Thus, if you feel your project could benefit of a specific microscopy technique, we would be very pleased to hear about it and see how we could help!

Biography:

Light microscopy has being present throughout my academic and professional life, considering that is a fundamental and powerful tool in sciences. Zeiss technicians have trained me to achieve a great knowledge on the Confocal Microscopy equipment and technique.

After gaining valuable insight in Life Sciences doing my BSc in Biology. I worked in South America as an Ecologist. After that, I did my MSc in Genetics and Developmental Biology. In 2012, I joined the Biomedical Sciences Department in St. George’s Hospital, University of London, where I worked as Cell Biologist and I gained experience in Cell Signaling Research.

As a Technician of the Image Resource Facility I am responsible for teaching and training to all resource researchers, clinicians, students in microscopical equipment usage. My role includes guidance and assistance in troubleshooting so I am more than happy to discuss anyone’s project to fit your necessities in our facility the best we can.
